چکیده

One of the major challenges facing the proposed highenergy linear ee colliders is the preservation of the extremely small vertical emittance from the damping rings to the interaction point (IP). This emittance must be transported through bunch compression sections, the main linac and finally through the beam delivery system to the IP. Historically, the beam dynamics issues of each subsystem have been studied quasi-independently, with the beam conditions and tolerances being specified at the boundaries. As part of the recent International Linear Collider Technical Review Committee [1], new simulation tools have been developed to simulate the beam transport through the integrated system, including static and dynamic errors, stabilization systems, and tuning algorithms.

ILC/TRC luminosity performance assessment

The Low-Emittance Transport (LET) region of a linear collider includes all of the beamlines between the exit of the main damping ring and the interaction point. Generically, the LET includes the bunch compressor, main linac, and beam delivery sections of the linear collider. The principal luminosity requirements of the LET are: preservation of the small emittances generated by the main damping ...

PROGRESS REPORT Beam simulation: beam transport in the bunch compressor main- linacs and beam delivery systems, beam halo modeling and trans- port, and implementation as a diagnostic tool for commissioning and operation

This project covers simulations of main beam transport in linear colliders, with an emphasis on integrated damping ring to IP simulations; studies of the sources and transport of beam halo from its origin to the IP; Spin polarization transport from the damping ring to the IP; implementation of modeling tools as a diagnostic for addressing commissioning and operational issues. Each of these topi...

Operation and Performance of Bunch Precompression for Increased Current Transmission at the Slc

As the beam currents at the SLC are increased, transverse aperture restrictions in the ring-to-linac transport line (RTL) become increasingly important. The RTL contains a bunch compressor which introduces a large energy variation across the bunch and hence a larger transverse beam size. Since 1994 the compressor amplitude has been operating at higher than design voltage. While advantangeous fo...

Ion Effects in the Electron Damping Ring of the International Linear Collider*

Ion-induced beam instabilities and tune shifts are critical issues for the electron damping ring of the International Linear Collider (ILC). To avoid conventional ion trapping, a long gap is introduced in the electron beam by omitting a number of successive bunches out of a long train. However, the beam can still suffer from the fast ion instability, driven by ions that last only for a single p...

Slc Beam Dynamics Issues

The Stanford Linear Collider (SLC)1*2 accelerates ingle bunches of electrons and positrons to 47 GeV per beam and collides them with small beam sizes and at high currents. The beam emittances and intensities required for present operation have significantly extended traditional beam quality limits. The electron source produces over lo1 1 ein each of two bunches. The damping rings provide couple...
